Bonnie Cafe is a straightforward, reliable spot for anyone looking to kickstart their day in Bonnyrigg with a strong coffee and a hearty breakfast. Situated on High Street, it fits smoothly into daily local routines, where the comfort of familiar faces and a no-fuss menu make it a steady choice for both residents and visitors passing through.

The vibe here is casual and welcoming, with a friendly, approachable staff who seem keen to make you feel at home rather than just serve you a meal. It’s the kind of place where regulars drop in not just for the coffee—which, by the way, often draws compliments as genuinely solid and well-prepared—but also for the easy atmosphere accentuated by subtle background music. You don’t feel rushed, which makes it a good stop for those wanting to linger over their morning chat, a quick catch-up, or a casual work break.

The menu leans into classic cafe comforts. Breakfast options such as the all day breakfast, full breakfasts, and breakfast rolls are staples that locals often rely on to fuel up on chilly mornings. There’s an approachable variety of drinks—from cappuccinos and cortados to fresh fruit juices—and toasties that are customizable by fillings, making it simple to tailor to your appetite. You can also count on something light like the daily soup or a tray bake if you are popping in later in the day.

Bonnie Cafe tends to attract a diverse crowd: early risers needing that reliable caffeine fix, families seeking a convenient breakfast spot, and neighborhood regulars who appreciate the blend of good food at reasonable prices with a relaxed pace. Most find it best to visit during weekday mornings when the place buzzes quietly without becoming hectic. Weekends can get busier, especially with locals making it a breakfast routine, though the cafe closes on Sundays so it’s not a fallback for every day of the week.

In all, it’s a place that fits well into the daily rhythm of Bonnyrigg, appreciated for simplicity done well and a familiar warm welcome rather than anything flashy. If you want a well-made latte or a solid breakfast without pretense, Bonnie Cafe offers that kind of dependable comfort.

We were very pleased to find this cafe open for breakfast on a cold January morning. The breakfast and breakfast roll was great value and the coffee was superb - one of the best I've had. The tray bakes looked delicious so I may return some future date to sample them!

Spent a few days in Bonnyrigg and the Bonnie Cafe breakfast got us off to the perfect start every day (apart from Sunday, fair enough, everyone needs a day off!). Food very good, be it all day breakfast, one of the set menus or make your own. Would thoroughly recommend!

In with my work supporting adults with autism which if you’ve ever worked in the industry they pay for you to eat with the individuals unlike what another reviewer suggests. Staff were very aware of our situation and were very attentive and polite. I would ignore reviews from people who only give 1 star reviews as some passive aggressive way of dealing with their own problems. Food was top quality and would recommend to anyone that can appreciate the good things in life.

A must visit! Very lovely breakfast with everything you would want. Service marked down as a little slow, but that is to be expected for somewhere so busy (and busy on merit!). Will be visiting again!
